Somalia works towards more women representation in the upcoming elections

Somalia hopes to guarantee 30 percent women’s representation in parliament after the Federal Government appointed a committee to increase women participation in the upcoming legislative elections.

According to regulations issued by its National Leadership Forum, 30 percent of seats are to be reserved for women in each member states.

The committee of Goodwill ambassadors met with women leaders from all the regional states, ministers and representatives of civil society in Somalia to formulate a strategy that will enable women candidates to access resources and skills in the elections… assistance in things such as registration process and engaging the clan elders according to  report by AMISOM.

“We are all united behind this goal. We have consistently insisted that women of Somalia must have at least 30 percent representation,” said the UN Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Raisedon Zenenga
