There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, though it falls in line with attacks often carried out by extremists Islamist group al-Shabaab.
The militant group has waged a decade-long war in the Horn of African nation, seeking to topple the government and instill an extreme jihadist system of governance.
The war has killed tens of thousands and forced millions others to flee their homes.
Reuters report a police source to say that Monday’s bomb attack was planted at Mogadishu’s Benadir junction.
“The bomb… injured seven pedestrians. There were no vehicles passing there by that time,” the news agency quotes police officer major Abdullahi Hussein.
The injured were taken to hospital, said Abdikadir Abdirahman, director of Amin Ambulances emergency service that transported them.
