Somalia President condemns Turkey’s Military attempt to seize power from the government

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has condemned the attempted coup by a group of Turkey military officers. The President called the coup an attempt to disrupt the stability and democracy of Turkey.

“It is unacceptable to reverse the democratic path that the people of Turkey enjoyed in the recent times of their history. This was unfortunate and we are very glad to hear that the evil forces who tried to turn Turkey into a violence ground have been defeated’’, said the President, according to the statement released

President Mohamud reasserted Somalia’s support to the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He called for the respect of the constitutional order and the democratic institutions in the country.

Somalis have also re-sounded their President’s sentiments and offered support for the people of Turkey. Some have even taken to the streets to protest the attempted coup and show support for the Turkish Government.

Public schools as well as businesses have not been opened in Somalia. Hundreds have taken to the streets to condemn the failed coup attempt in Turkey.

Somallia became among the first world countries to condemn the failed attempt in Turkey. Turkey is leading the recovery and reconstruction of Somalia, It recently opened its biggest embassy in the world here in Mogadishu
