Somalia is considered among the worst places to be a mother. The armed insurgency in the country has had a heavy toll on the healthcare system.
Now however, a young group of doctors hope to establish a national blood bank, one that is likely to save pregnant mothers and victims of Islamist militia group Al-Shabaab’s deadly attacks.
The young Somali doctors are on a mission, one that they hope will save numerous lives in Somalia.
Awareness for the campaign is mostly done in universities and public places such as the Mogadishu peace garden.
The organizers of the mission hope to convince university students to participate in the blood donation to enable the blood-bank have adequate reserves of the vital body fluid, to help victims of the frequent militant attacks and maternal patients.
