At least six people were killed and three others injured as Tropical Cyclone Ava passed through Madagascar on Friday and Saturday. Two other people were reported missing.

According to local authorities, the storm battered the eastern coast of the island with wind speeds of between 140-190 kph (87-119 mph).

The country’s National Office of Risk and Disaster Management said in a statement that more than 13,000 people were displaced by the cyclone.

The agency also said classes were suspended until later this week for 16,000 pupils due to flooding.

In March 2017, Cyclone Enawo struck Madagascar, killing at least 78 people.
