Sierra-Leone President hails China ahead of CPC Congress

The 19TH National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is set to begin on 18th October 2017, and is already attracting the attention of the international community.

Ahead of that important gathering, CGTN got an exclusive interview with Sierra Leone’s President Ernest Bai Koroma.

He hailed his country’s relationship with China as excellent, noting that the Asian country was the first to offer help when Sierra Leone was in crisis.

He said the two countries enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship, which is based on respect for each other.

“China and Sierra Leone has an excellent relationship and it improving by the day even though we have very excellent relationship now. It is based on wisdom respect for each other and there is trust and confidence,” President Koroma said.

He took time to mention China’s role in his country’s development, especially infrastructural gains which the Asian country has come to be hailed for all across Africa.

“China has contributed substantially in our overall economic efforts. They are very much involved in infrastructural development; they involve in private sector activities including investment in the mining, tourism and they are very much involved in the training of youth and professionals,” he added.

A proposed amendment to the Constitution of the Communist Party of China (CPC) that was passed at the Seventh Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee is expected to be submitted at the 19th Congress.

Africa and the world at large will follow the Congress keenly, owing to China’s role in global development.
