Several protesters were wounded on Monday as Guinean police opened fire on demonstrators protesting against President Alpha Conde.

The gunfire could be heard into the afternoon as youths rallied in several suburbs, including Simbaya and Hamadallaye.

At least eight youths were treated for gunshot wounds. The opposition had called for demonstrations in all parts of the capital against the on-going lack of security, which it blames on Conde’s government.

In March, the opposition also boycotted parliament in protest over the President’s decision to postpone voting.
