FIFA President Sepp Blatter is calling for autonomy in football, urging that national federations be allowed to operate without government interference.

Speaking specifically about South American football, while mentioning cases in Peru and Bolivia, Blatter’s remarks come at a time when African football is experiencing the same problem.

Recently, countries like Nigeria and Kenya have run afoul of the world governing body’s rules barring governmental interference in the running of football.

Blatter was speaking at the 65th Congress South American Football Confederation in Paraguay on Wednesday.

He also tackled several other issues touching on the sport, including racism in football matches
