Senior airport police chief killed in northern Somalia
A senior police commander was killed on Monday by a junior police officer in Puntland region in northern Somalia.
Abdisalam Sanyare, who was the commander at Galkaayo airport, was shot dead by a police officer guarding the facility in what sources said could have been a result of a scuffle.
“The commander was shot and killed by one of the airport guards,” Liban Ahmed, a police officer in Galkacyo, told Xinhua. “Investigations are already underway to establish the motive.”
A worker at the airport told Xinhua the two had a quarrel before the killing.
“There was a scuffle between the two and shortly we heard gunfire. The officer took off immediately,” said the worker, who did not want to be named.
