Senegal’s Teranga Lions best team in Africa in latest FIFA rankings

Senegal’s Teranga Lions have ended 2017 as the best team in Africa according to the recent FIFA-Coca Cola ranking.

The team has however been ranked the 23rd on the global ladder according to ranking released on Thursday while Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one spot from 50th to 51st position.

Tunisia has been ranked 27while Egypt took the 31st position, the Democratic Republic of Congo is 39 and Morocco is at the 40th position. These teams completed the top five African countries.

Ahead of Nigeria are Burkina Faso (44), Cameroon (45) and Ghana (50) while Algeria completed the top 10 of Africa’s best at the 58th position.

Nigeria’s Group D World Cup opponents; Argentina, Croatia and Iceland did not move too much in the current rankings. Argentina maintained her number four spot, Croatia moved up one spot to 17th while Iceland dropped to number 22 in the global ranking.

Nigeria will be hoping to pull a good performance at next month’s CHAN in Morocco in order to improve their ranking since FIFA regards the competition as a full international.

Germany is FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking’s latest ‘Team of the Year’, having ended 2017 atop the global ladder.

The team has won all ten of their qualifiers and has been unbeaten in 15 matches in 2017. They succeed Argentina and Belgium, who were ‘Team of the Year’ in 2016 and 2015 respectively.

Brazil is second with Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, France and Chile making up the Top Ten at the global level to end 2017.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on January 18, 2018.
