
Senegalese president expresses his solidarity with China

China’s fight against the novel coronavirus is in full gear, as medical personnel labour to halt its spread and stop new infections.
The country has received support from all around the world in this fight, with world leaders expressing their admiration for the Chinese government’s determination to tackle the virus.
In Senegal, President Macky Sall expressed his country’s solidarity with China but also applauded it for the tough measures taken to curb its spread.
“I would like once again to express my solidarity with all the countries that have been affected, and particularly with China. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, this is an extremely difficult situation. we can clearly see it, the risks of contamination or contagion are quite significant,” President Sall said.
“And we must hope that in countries like ours that we do not have such a situation very quickly because we need a robust health system to be able to cope with this. Besides, if so far we are at this level it is because China has taken very large confine and also special medical measures.”
As of Tuesday 4 February, there were 716 cases of recovery. 426 deaths have so far been reported in China, with one reported abroad. Confirmed cases in China have reached 20,527, while cases abroad have hit 176.
The Chinese government has however activated a Level 1 emergency response in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities on the Chinese mainland.
