Senegal to face Mauritania in Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations final
This year’s Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations final will see defending champions Senegal face Mauritania.
Senegal will be out to win a record-extending fifth title, while Mauritania will be aiming to end their fairy-tale run in the tournament with a first-ever title on their debut.
A majority of fans and pundits may favour Senegal, but fans of Mauritania will be quietly confident of pulling an upset in the finale.
The two teams met in the opening match of Group B with Mauritania stunning Senegal 5-2.
Following that defeat, Senegal recovered superbly winning three consecutive matches, including a tense 2-1 victory against hosts Egypt in the semi-final.
On the other hand, Mauritania lost on penalties to Mozambique before outclassing Malawi to finish top of the group. They then came from behind to defeat Morocco 7-4 and advance to the final.
By reaching the final, Senegal and Mauritania secured their places at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup next year, alongside hosts Seychelles.
The final will take place at the Albatross Stadium in Hurghada on Saturday. Prior to that match, Egypt and Morocco will contest the third-place playoff.
