A fifth term for Yoweri Museveni as he was declared the winner with more than 60 percent of the votes on Saturday. His closest rival Kizza Besigye remains under house arrest as he maintains the elections were a sham.

“I would like to appeal to the international community to reject the outcome of the Uganda election unequivocally…and two, to request that an international commission be setup to audit, carryout a comprehensive audit of the 2016 presidential elections in Uganda.” said Dr. Kizza Besigye – FDC Leader

This is what some of the voters from both sides have been speaking out..

“I am so excited that our president has come out as the victor… however I cannot express my happiness because of my security.” Says Geofrey Mukisa – Voter

“Am not happy at all, it is a time for mourning, I believe out vote was stolen.” Mohammad Ssendi – Voter

For now, Kampala remain on lock down in case of trouble.

“As you maybe aware there have been reports received by security agencies and information that some elements were planning to cause disruption, to cause violence and to cause mayhem… they were therefore creating a situation that we in government could not accept or take chances about.”Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda – Prime Minister of Uganda

Social media and mobile money transfer services were shut down for the vote for security reasons  scheduled to resume on Monday.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be sworn in for his new 5-year term in 30 days. And Uganda’s Prime Minister says opposition leaders who are under house arrest will be let free soon as the security situation normalizes.
