Schools in Shangui, one of the recaptured towns in Nigeria’s Northeast city of Adamawa have resumed learning.

This is after four months after Boko Haram insurgents took over the town.

Militant group Boko Haram has killed thousands and kidnapped hundreds during a six-year campaign to carve out an Islamist state in northern Nigeria.

The insurgency has been a major blow to education in the north east.

Africa’s biggest economy and top energy producer has been plagued by the group which was launched in 2009. Boko haram managed to take control of a territory the size of Belgium by the beginning of 2015. Local hunters and vigilante groups have been assisting the soldiers to fight the group.
