Saudi minister says no immediate plans to lift ban on Boeing MAX planes

Saudi Arabia’s Transport minister Nabeel al-Amudi says there are no plans in the near future to allow Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to operate in the kingdom.
The minister, who spoke at an aviation conference in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, confirmed that there were no 737 MAX planes flying in the kingdom at the time.
Amudi also said that Saudi Arabia will follow the global aviation industry with regard to any recertification of the MAX model.
Saudi Arabia’s low fares airline, Flydeal, said it is waiting until investigations into the two crashes involving the model are completed before making a decision on an order for 30 MAX jets.
According to Boeing, the order is worth $5.9 billion.
Boeing 737 MAX models have been grounded around the world following two crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia that killed 346 people raising questions over the certification process by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
