China’s Foreign Ministry has reiterated the importance of the One-China policy, urging all countries to abide by it.

This comes following a visit by the leader of China’s Taiwan region Tsai Ing-wen to eSatini, formerly Swaziland.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged African countries to abide by the policy, noting the friendship and cooperation the Asian country has built with the continent.

Earlier, Sao Tome and Principe – the second-smallest African nation – reaffirmed its commitment to the One-China policy, and is seeking further cooperation with China.

China resumed diplomatic relations with Sao Tome and Principe in December 2016, after the island nation cut ties with the Chinese region, Taiwan.

Speaking with CGTN, Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Patrice Emery Trovoada hailed the resumption of ties with China, saying it was a long-term strategic choice for the two countries, which share common interests.

Above all, he says, Sao Tome and Principe has aligned with international law.
