The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) announced its Premier League Team of the Year on Wednesday, but only one African made the cut.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah was not only the lone African included in the star-studded team, but also the only Liverpool player.

Salah is joined in attack by Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Midfield was packed with talents including Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva of Manchester City, joined by Christian Eriksen of Tottenham.

The defence is made up of two Manchester City players – Kyle Walker and Nicolas Otamendi, plus Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was unsurprisingly picked to take charge in goal.

Salah has had an incredible debut season since joining the Reds from Italian side AS Roma.

The Egyptian has scored 40 goals in all competitions and is the current leader of the PL scoring chart with 30 goals, four ahead of second placed Kane.

He has already set records, including becoming the highest scoring African in a single season in the Premier League.
