Salah, Mane shine as Liverpool inflict first loss on Manchester City
The African duo netted once each on the back of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino goals to give the side revenge against the Citizens, who drubbed them 5-0 in their first meeting in September.
Chamberlain opened the floodgates in the thrilling match in the 9th minute, drilling a powerful shot past a helpless Ederson Moraes from a Firmino pass.
Manchester City got back on level terms in the 40th minute after a neat finish from Leroy Sane, but things were never to get better for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Firmino doubled his side’s lead in the 59th minute, this time Chamberlain turning provider.
Mane then grabbed Liverpool’s third two minutes later after a neat Salah pass.
The Egyptian himself would go on to net a long range finish into an empty net in the 68th minute after an Ederson costly clearance landed right into his path.
Manchester City threatened to spoil Liverpool’s party with a superb attacking display late on, grabbing two goals through Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Guendogan. That was not to be however, as the hosts clung on to full points in front of their fans.
Salah’s goal means he now has 18 league goals and 6 assists, being the second top scorer after Harry Kane who has notched 20 times.
