Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane has been named in the PFA Team of The Year, becoming the only African selected in the 2019 team.

Mane was joined in the selection by fellow teammates Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson and Trent-Alexander Arnold.

With four players in the Team of the Year, Liverpool was only second to Manchester City which had six players.

The six Manchester City players are; Ederson, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba completed the team, becoming the only player not from either Liverpool or Manchester City.

Notably, there was no room for Premier League Golden Boot contenders Mohamed Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Harry Kane.

Salah was named as the PFA player of the year for the 2017-18 season, having scored a record breaking 32 PL goals.

Chelsea’s star player Eden Hazard also missed out on the 2019 PFA Team of the Year.

The PFA Team of the Year is voted for by members of the Professional Footballers’ Association, the players’ union.
