Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane could make history if he finds the back of the net in Saturday’s Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

The 27 could become the first ever Reds player to score in back-to-back finals in the elite competition.

Mane netted in last year’s final, in which Liverpool suffered a 3-1 defeat. If he scores against Tottenham, the Senegalese international would also become only the second Liverpool man to score in multiple European Cup/Champions League finals after Phil Neal, who did it in 1977 and 1984.

Of players to have scored at least 10 Champions League goals, Mane has the highest ratio in the knockout stages of the competition at 71.4 per cent, with 10 of his 14 coming in the latter stages.

He is one of only four Africans to score in a European Cup/Champions League final. The others are Rabah Madjer (FC Porto – 1977), Samuel Eto’o (Barcelona – 2006 and 2009) and Didier Drogba (Chelsea – 2012).

Should the Liverpool No.10 score in Madrid, he will become the eighth player to find the back of the net in more than one Champions League final.

The Madrid final will potentially also see a host of other African stars feature, including Mohamed Salah, Joel Matip, Victor Wanyama and Serge Aurier.

The game is scheduled to be played at the Estadio Metropolitano de Madrid from 1900GMT.
