S. Arabia announces formation of 34-state military coalition
Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of a 34-state military coalition to combat terrorism. The coalition, which includes late entrant Uganda, is comprised of 18 gulf states with the remaining forces coming from Africa and Asia.
The announcement follows pressure from the United States for Gulf States to be more involved in the fight against Islamic extremism.
Saudi Arabia’s announcement of the formation of a 34-state military coalition is one likely to be welcomed across the globe. It follows a push by the United States for gulf states to do more to aid in the campaign against terrorism.
The announcement, which was made by Saudi crown prince and Defence minister Mohammed bin Salman, will see an expansion in counter terror activity in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt Mali and Nigeria in Africa.
