S. African retailers slash prices in observance of ‘Black Friday’
The US tradition of Black Friday is starting to gain traction in other parts of the world. It happens on the day after the American thanksgiving holiday and usually kicks off the festive season shopping period.
There’s quite a few stories around the history of Black Friday, the most common being around the big profits made on the day. Some say US retailers were suffering a recession and their books finally tipped into the black after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sales from Black Friday last year, added up to more than $50bn.
This years edition of Black Friday was observed On Friday 27 November and South Africa was not left behind.
Many retailers in the country slashed prices of their goods, attracting large numbers of customers to their various outlets. Business was abuzz across the country as excited customers visited shop after shop to make purchases of the goods on offer.
