Rwanda’s border town expands lockdown due to rise in COVID-19 cases

A fourth sector of western Rwanda’s Rusizi district, which borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has been put under lockdown due to an increase of COVID-19 cases there, Rwandan Health Minister Daniel Ngamije said Friday.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Rusizi has risen to 89, which led to Nkombo sector being locked down, Ngamije said on Rwanda Television.
Cases in Rusizi would have been more if its other three sectors had not been locked down, said Ngamije.
The government imposed a two-week lockdown in the three sectors that make up Rusizi’s Kamembe area last Thursday.
Rwanda’s Health Ministry on Friday reported 16 new cases and eight recoveries, bringing the total confirmed cases to 510 and total recoveries to 321.
