Rwanda to expand capital’s transport infrastructure in major project
Rwanda to begin major road expansion in the capital city of Kigali in January
According to the New Times, the project will expand over 54 kilometres of roads to dual carriage way with two lanes on each side. In a move to reduce traffic jams which occur especially during peak hours blamed on narrow rods and lack of by-passes and alternative routes.
The Rwandese government has awarded the project contract to China Road Bridge Corporation. The funds for the project expected to cost 76 million dollars will be met by the government of the East African nation and China. The government will however, pay the expropriation cost, with former property owner already moving.
According to the new times “The project, which covers Kigali’s three districts, is expected to contribute toward the goal of developing Kigali to a modern city with Nyarugenge being the financial hub, Kicukiro the knowledge hub, and Gasabo envisioned to be the employment and cultural centre.”
