
Rwanda prevents 12 Burundians from being trafficked to the Middle East
Rwandan police has intercepted 12 Burundian nationals from being taken to the Middle East countries on suspicions of human trafficking according to a report by Xinhua
Rwandan security enforcers intercepted the 12 at the Rwanda-Burundi border of Akanyaru , on their way to Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya.
The Burundians which included 11 women were destined to Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar according to Rwanda’s Deputy Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Lynder Nkuranga.
Three suspects, two Kenyans and one Burundian were arrested with charges connected to human trafficking after promising the 12 to get them good jobs.
Rwanda police is making arrangements to repatriate the 12 victims.
According to Xinhua,’ The 2016 U.S. State Department’s report on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) said Rwanda was a source, and to a lesser degree, a transit and destination country for a limited number of women and children subjected to forced labor and sex trafficking.’
