Rwanda entrepreneur creates a solar mobile charging kiosk

Rwanda’s Minister for Youth and ICT has been urging the country’s young people to be more innovative and become job creators rather than job seekers.

One of those young people, has become an inspiration to many after having developed a Solar Mobile Charging Kiosk. The franchise model, he has developed is not only changing people’s lives, its also providing a key service to hundreds of thousands of people.

Henri Nyakarundi is the founder of African Renewable Energy Distributor. The company that led him to be named winner of the Seif Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2014.

Formed in 2012, the solar energy start- up has developed the Mobile Solar Kiosk in Rwanda, a one- stop for mobile users looking for low-cost and convenient phone charging.

Henri employs mainly people with little capital to start their own business while providing stable and reliable energy solutions to rural and semi-urban areas.
