70 members of the Rwanda Defence force (RDF) medical team working in the CAR were honored by the UN for their professionalism and selfless service in carrying out their duties of ensuring peace and stability in the nation, local online newspaper, the New Times reports.
The officers, who received medals, serve as peacekeepers under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization (MINUSCA) mission in the CAR.
The team comprising both men and women was deployed in the country in August 2017 for a one year duty that will be completed in August 2018, a statement from the RDF said.
“During their first six months, they carried out many outpatients and inpatient cases, performed various major surgical operations, and realised successful missions of aero-medical evacuations among many tasks performed,” reads the statement.

Rwanda has maintained peacekeepers in Central African Republic following the 2013 violence in the country pilling mainly between the Christian and Muslim communities.
