Rwanda Accused of Attempted Forceful Arrest of Refugee in Uganda

Read < 1 minute

A diplomatic row is brewing between Uganda and Rwanda. This is after Uganda’s commission for refugees accused Rwanda of trying to forcefully arrest Portais Hakizimfura, a Rwandese refugee on allegations of participating in the 1994 genocide on Ugandan soil. The refugee is currently in the custody of Ugandan police as allegations against him are verified. No records from Interpol show that an arrest warrant was issued by the government of Rwanda while his refugee status records in Uganda do not highlight any involvement in the genocide. The Rwandan Ambassador to Uganda, Frank Mugambage has however denied any involvement of the Rwandan government saying the country follows the rule of law.
