Ronaldo tests positive for COVID-19
Portugal and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for COVID-19, the Portuguese Football Federation (PFF) announced on Wednesday.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden,” the federation said in a statement.
The federation confirmed that the rest of the Portuguese players also underwent tests but all turned negative, greenlighting their preparation for Wednesday’s game.
The 35-year-old Juventus striker will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Nations League game against Sweden.
“The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation,” the federation added.
Five-times world player of the year Ronaldo appeared in his side’s 0-0 draw away to France in the Nations League on Sunday and Wednesday’s 0-0 draw in a friendly at home to Spain.
The latest development means Ronaldo will also miss Juventus Serie A game against Crotone on Saturday and the UEFA Champions League opener against Dynamo Kyiv on 20 October.
He also looks likely to miss the Serie A game against Verona on 25 October.
