Rio Paralympic: Affordable ticket prices spark rise in sales, fans flock to venues

Read < 1 minute

Organisers in Rio are relieved as fans continue flocking to venues.

In the run-up to the games, poor ticket sales and budget cuts prompted fears that the tournament was doomed. Over the weekend however over 160,000 tickets were sold in a single day.

The Rio Paralympics is now being touted as the second-most successful games after London. One reason for the popularity is the ticket prices —  the cheapest being about 30 US cents. The games also provide a great opportunity for those who didn’t make it to the Olympics to enjoy sports.

And many schools outside Rio have brought pupils to the city on day-trips.
