South Sudan’s opposition leader Riek Machar has finally arrived in the capital Juba to take up the position of vice president under Salva Kiir.
Machar’s return to the capital was initially due on April 18 but received numerous setbacks.
He previously blamed the government for failing to honour some of the agreements of the peace deal.
He then later said his chief of general staff and more forces loyal to him had to be allowed into Juba before his return.
His chief of staff Simon Gatwech arrived in the capital yesterday, finally paving way for his return.
Machar will retake the position of vice president under President Salva Kiir in an AU-backed peace agreement that will see the formation of a transitional unity government, ultimately ending the two-year civil war.
