Real Madrid’s Éder Militão tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Inter Milan clash
Real Madrid defender Éder Militão will miss his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Spanish club confirmed the test results of the 22-year-old Brazilian on Monday, just a day before hosting the Italian side.
“The club would like to confirm once again that everyone, with the exception of Éder Militão, tested negative in the antigen tests carried out that same morning,” read a statement from Real Madrid.
Militão, who was part of Real Madrid’s team that beat SD Huesca 4-1 on Saturday in La Liga, will undergo a period of self-isolation as stipulated in Spanish health guidelines.
Militão’s absence worsens Real Madrid’s situation ahead of Tuesday’s game, with Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola and Nacho Fernandez also sidelined due to injury.
The 13-time UCL Champions are rooted at the bottom of Group B with one point from two games, three points behind table toppers Shakhtar Donetsk who play Borussia Mönchengladbach.
