Spanish giants Real Madrid have recorded the longest goal drought in their history, the club’s worst drought since 1985. The side officially went 481 minutes without a goal.
Los Blancos, under coach Julen Lopetegui are currently ranked fifth, having won only four of their eight La Liga games.
Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Levante at home means the 2017/18 Champions League winners have gone five games without a win in all competitions, and also leaves them at fifth place in the La Liga standings. They could find themselves further down as more games are played over the weekend.
Real Madrid’s recent performances have put Lopetegui on the spotlight, with reports from Spanish media indicating he might be replaced by Italian tactician Antonio Conte to salvage the season for Los Blancos.
Lopetegui took charge at the Barnabeu in June, just days before the FIFA World Cup began. His acceptance of the Real Madrid job prompted the Spanish FA to sack him before he could lead the Spain team in the Russia tournament.
Conte is currently out of a job following his sacking by Chelsea after the 2017/18 season.
