Pyramids F.C. climbed up to second in the Egyptian Premier League following a 3-0 win against Tanta at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Monday.
Veteran Egyptian midfielder Abdallah Said scored a 13-minute second-half hat-trick to secure all three points.
Pyramids, however, rode their luck as Tanta missed a penalty just before halftime with Islam Fouad failing to hit the target with his spot-kick. Tanta averaged more ball possession than Pyramids, especially in the first half, but was unable to create any meaningful chances aside from the penalty; they failed to register any attempts on target in the entire match.
The second half saw Pyramids play with more urgency and their efforts were rewarded when Said successfully converted two penalties in the 48th and 58th minutes for a 2-0 lead.
The 35-year-old then completed his hat-trick three minutes later as Pyramids rose to second level on points with Zamalek but with a superior goal difference.
Zamalek was unlucky not to claim a win in its match against Al Ittihad after a dominant performance at the Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria.
Ferjani Sassi gave Zamalek the lead just before halftime but Al Ittihad equalized in the 93rd minute through substitute Ahmed Rashed with what was their only attempt on goal.
The game between Haras El Hoodod and El Masry was postponed by the Egyptian Football Association after a number of El Masry players tested positive for COVID-19.
Following the latest results, Pyramids and Zamalek lie in second and third respectively on 35 points but Zamalek has a game in hand over Pyramids. Al Ittihad is fifth on 28 points while Tanta lies in 16th place on 16 points. El Masry is 10th with 20 points and Haras El Hoodod is 12th a point behind.
