Property lost as fire razes stalls at Kenya’s gikomba market
Property of unknown value was destroyed Friday morning after a fire razed stalls in Gikomba, one of Kenya’s largest open air market
According to a report by local media, the Daily Nation, the fire took hold at the fish and groceries section at about 3am on Friday.
Fire-fighters arrived at the scene to combat the fire but faced a challenge due to congestion.
According to the Nairobi county head of security, Francis Munyambu, all county fire engines are at the scene but congestion and inaccessibility is slowing down the rescue process, the report quotes him say.
No casualties have been reported and the cause of fire is yet to be known.
The market has a history of fires which have cost traders losses amounting to millions of shillings.
