President Zuma in Iran for trade talks
South African President Jacob Zuma arrived in Iran for a two-day state visit for talks on trade and economic cooperation.
Zuma was accompanied by a high-ranking economic-political delegation, and will meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to discuss a host of issues, including the signing of several cooperation agreements in trade and economy.
Zuma’s visit will bolster South Africa’s aim to revitalise trade and investment ties with the Islamic republic.
Diplomats say the opening up of the Iranian market will allow South African companies to expand their investments in the Middle East and Euro-Asia.
The lifting of economic and trade sanctions against Iran in January has brought new opportunities for foreign businesses.
Iran holds 10% of the world’s oils reserves, and has the world’s second largest natural gas reserves.
