South African president Jacob Zuma has condemned African leaders who amend their constitution to extend their stay in power.

Zuma was addressing delegates at the  25th session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa which is underway in Cape Town South Africa.

Zuma’s comments come as Burundi grapples with a political crisis that has arisen from president Pierre Nkurunziza seeking a third term in power.

Zuma asked African leaders to respect their countries’ constitutions when it comes to term limits.

The three-day conference brings together leading business people, politicians and human rights activists to asses the economic status of Africa and discuss on how to foster growth on the continent.

The political crisis in Burundi has led to many people fleeing into neighboring countries for fear of violence.

President, Pierre Nkurunziza, welcomed a decision by the electoral commission to postpone both presidential and legislative elections following unrest in the country, according to presidential spokesman Willy Nyamitwe.

The presidential vote was previously planned to be held on July 26, while the legislative election was scheduled to be held on Friday.
