President Xi’s envoy to attend President Uhuru’s inauguration

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, Wang Jiarui will attend the inauguration ceremony of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Wang is vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Uhuru is set to be sworn in after he won a repeat presidential election on October 26.

The Supreme Court ordered the October 26 election after nullifying the results of the initial August election, citing irregularities in the tallying of votes.

The opposition boycotted the poll, which Kenyatta won with 98 percent of the vote. Some opposition supporters mobilised to prevent polls from opening in the west of the country.
