President Uhuru Kenyatta leads Kenyans in congratulating record-breaking rugby star Injera
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has led other Kenyans in congratulating the country’s rugby star Collins Injera for breaking the record for the most tries in World Sevens series.
Through the presidency’s twitter account, Uhuru said, “I salute Collins Injera for breaking the tries record in the IRB series. The selfless pass from his brother is special.”
Injera now tops the chart with an utterly impressive 231 tries after surpassing Santiago Gómez Cora’s record which stood at 230.
The record setting try was made even sweeter for Injera as it his elder brother Humprey Kayange who set him up.
“I’ve played this sport since high school, and when I started out I wanted to go for the record,” the 29-year-old said pitchside after the game.
“It was a huge thing — getting it with my brother, who was mentoring me a lot, telling me what to do and what not to do. It’s a special moment for me, happening at Twickenham.”
Even though Kenya ultimately lost the game 29-12 to France, there was mucg to celebrate for Kenyans back home, who are keen followers of the sport.
Twitter users went to the social site to pass their congratulatory messages to Injera for his feat. Here are some of the messages;
