Zimbabwe is set to hold a historic presidential election on 30 July, the first in which Robert Mugabe will not have participated in since the country gained independence in 1980.
Ahead of that election, caretaker President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reached out to white farmers in a bid to assure them of the safety of their farms.
During the Mugabe administration, the white community was accused of supporting the opposition and regularly threatened with expulsion.
President Mnangagwa has called for racial unity ahead of the Monday poll, and declared an end to the controversial farm grabs.
He has promised to compensate dispossessed farmers and is inviting them to participate in the mainstay sector, through joint ventures with new black landowners.
Mnangagwa is the ruling ZANU-PF party’s candidate for the poll, but he faces opposition from Nelson Chamisa of the MDC alliance and 21 other candidates.
