Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday travelled to London ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The biennial forum brings together leaders of the 53 member states of the Commonwealth body.
The 2018 Summit will focus on promoting prosperity, safety, sustainability and fairness with the theme: “Towards a common future”.
More than 5,000 participants from across the member countries are expected to attend, drawn from governments, civil society and private businesses.
Heads of government are scheduled to attend a leaders’ retreat on Friday, where they are expected to hold talks on issues affecting the member countries.
During his trip, President Kenyatta will also hold other forums on the sidelines of the summit, meeting leaders and investors, aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and boosting trade and investment ties with the Commonwealth nations.
He is also expected to meet Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Theresa May.
Kenyatta will give an address at Chatham house, in which he will provide details of Kenya’s efforts in achieving economic growth and his administration’s role in the pursuit of peace in East Africa.
Kenya is among other nations that have deployed troops in conflict-weary Somalia under AMISOM, to pacify the Horn of African nation.
The Kenyan government is also part of regional body IGAD, that is keen to ensure peace in South Sudan.
The Commonwealth Summit comes just after the conclusion of the 2018 Commonwealth Games that were held in Gold Coast, Australia.
