President Kenyatta meets Museveni, Akufo Addo in Nairobi

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday met with his counterparts from Ghana and Uganda in Nairobi for bilateral talks.

President Nana Akufo-Addo and President Yoweri Museveni were in the Kenyan capital for the 9th African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Summit.

“The President’s meeting with his African counterparts held on the sidelines of ACP Summit 2019  sought to deepen bilateral relations between Kenya and the two sister nations,” the Kenyan presidency said.

President Akufo-Addo and President Museveni were among 17 Heads of State and Government present in Nairobi for the ACP Summit.

The Summit called for the establishment of a robust multilateral system to promote fair trade and hasten inclusive growth, peace and stability in the global south.

“We need to commit ourselves to multilateralism despite the crisis it has experienced in order to ensure that democracy, peace and prosperity prevails in our respective countries,” said Patrick Gomes, secretary-general of the ACP group of states.

On his part, President Kenyatta called for a keener approach to multilateralism to ensure all members gained.

“As ACP member states, we should be firm in advocating for a fair multilateral trading system that safeguards our economies from unfair trading practices,” he said.

President Kenyatta took over as president of the ACP group of states for the next three years.

ACP is an organization created by the Georgetown Agreement in 1975. The ACP Group’s main goals centre around the sustainable development of its Member-States and their gradual integration into the global economy; coordination of the activities of the ACP Group in the framework of the implementation of the ACP-EU Partnership Agreements; consolidation of unity and solidarity among ACP states and establishing and consolidating peace and stability in a free and democratic society.
