President Kenyatta meets Chinese delegation on first day of second term

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta [R] meets the Chinese delegation at State House on Wednesday.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday met with a special envoy of the Chinese President in the capital Nairobi for talks, just a day after he was sworn into office for a second term.

Kenyatta met with a Chinese delegation led by the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Wang Jiarui and Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Xianfa at State House, after which he praised China as a major partner and investor.

“Held talks with Mr. Wang Jiarui, Special Envoy of The President of The People’s Republic of China when he called on me at State House. China is currently Kenya’s biggest trading partner and a major investor, with interests ranging from construction to apparels and technology,” he said through his Twitter.

Kenyatta’s Tuesday inauguration ceremony was attended by various leaders from the continent and beyond. Among the Heads of State that were in attendance are Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir, Gabon’s Ali Bongo Ondimba, Botswana’s Ian Khama, Ethiopia’s Hailemariam Desalegn, Zambia’s Edgar Lungu, Somalia Abdulahi Mohamed ‘Farmajo’, Djibouti’s Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame and Namibia’s Hage Geingob. Other countries sent representatives.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also jetted into Kenya and joined the leaders for a reception at State House.
