President Kenyatta lures more British investment to Kenya

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday urged U.K. investors to venture in his country, assuring them of a viable business environment.

Kenyatta was speaking during his tour of the London Stock Exchange.

He is on a five-day visit in London, where he is set to attend the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit later this week.

“Kenya has just recorded the best improvement in ease of doing business. We are inviting more UK companies to invest in Kenya,” said the President. “Kenya is the third most competitive country in Africa with a liberalised economy.”

He added that the business environment in Kenya is supported by a strong telecommunication network, a reformed regulatory framework and an efficient aviation network.

Kenyatta is accompanied in his trip by a high-level delegation, including Trade and Industry CS Adan Mohamed and Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma.

“The United Kingdom continues to be a valuable economic partner in Kenya’s socio-economic policies,” said the President.

Kenyatta is also scheduled to join British Prime Minister Theresa May for a forum on plastics control.

Kenya last year enacted one of the world’s toughest laws on plastic, completely banning the use of plastic carrier bags.

Other heads of government from Commonwealth member countries are also in London for the Summit, scheduled to take place on Friday.

The Summit will focus on promoting prosperity, safety, sustainability and fairness with the theme: “Towards a common future”.
