President Kenyatta hails Kenya’s “strategic and comprehensive partnership” with China
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has hailed his country’s “strategic and comprehensive partnership” with China, highlighting the Chinese-built Standard Gauge Railway as the highpoint of that cooperation.
Kenyatta’s remarks come following the successful conclusion of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
“It is my ambition that we shall continue to strengthen our strategic and comprehensive partnership,” President Kenyatta said.
During his stay in China, the Kenyan leader met with China’s President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks, where a number of agreements were signed.
The deals were signed at the Great Hall of the People, focusing on strengthening the comprehensive and strategic partnership existing between Kenya and China.
Addressing President Xi, Kenyatta noted that the SGR project had opened avenues for accelerated human capacity building in the field of railway engineering.
“My government appreciates your government’s commitment to develop, jointly with our Railway Training Institute, the appropriate vocational and technical skills to ensure optimal management of the rail network on a sustainable basis,” he said.
The Kenyan president also expressed his satisfaction with China’s friendship, saying it had led to positive developments.
“Kenya is satisfied with the tremendous progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation, and continues to open up new areas of cooperation.”
