Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed optimism that his country will successfully defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Kenyatta made the remarks in his Easter message to Kenyans, urging them to do their part in the fight against the disease.
“Today we are in a storm. We have refused to give up and we will see the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya. We must come together by staying apart and breaking the chain of infection. Let us continue to observe good personal hygiene by washing hands and observing social distancing in our communities,” he said in his statement.
Kenya is one of 52 countries in Africa that have confirmed cases of COVID-19. The country has reported 184 cases, with seven deaths. 12 people have successfully recovered.
In general, Africa has reported close to 11,000 COVID-19 cases, with over 500 deaths. Over 1,000 people have recovered.
“There may be difficult days ahead but let us remember that suffering is temporary but triumph is eternal. We will be triumphant if we all do our part,” said President Kenyatta.
The president said the measures put in place to tackle the spread of the disease would yield results.
