President el-Sisi sends injured Mohamed Salah get-well-soon wishes

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has led other Egypotians in wishing football star Mohamed Salah a quick recovery after he sustained a worrying injury in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Salah landed awkwardly under a challenge from Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, and had to be replaced by Adam Lallana for the rest of the game.

Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to lift a third consecutive title and the 13th overall, but the game’s talking point was the Egyptian’s injury.

Following that incident, Egyptians are worried that their star-man may miss the FIFA World Cup scheduled to start on 14 June.

A doctor’s scan however said the injury might not be too bad, and that there is a chance he could make it to Russia.

President el-Sisi said he hoped Salah would be able to get back fit and return to the pitch soon enough.

“My heartfelt wishes to the Egyptian hero Mohammed Salah for a speedy recovery from his injury, and I hope he will return to the stadium soon and remain a brilliant Egyptian star,” he Tweeted.

Egypt is one of five African teams that are scheduled to take part in the World Cup that begins on June 14.

The Pharaohs are pooled alongside Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group A. They play their first game against the South Americans on 15 June.
