Polls project two-horse race between Museveni and Besigye
An opinion poll released Thursday on the upcoming elections in Uganda put incumbent president Yoweri Museveni ahead, with just six days to the February 18 election.
The poll that was conducted from February 1 to February 8 by research firm Ipsos, gives the NRM candidate Yoweri Museveni a 53 per cent lead, ahead of his closest opponent Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is at 28 per cent. Another poll commissioned by local newspaper Daily Monitor, gave 59.9 percent to President Museveni, with Kiza Besigye getting 21 percent. A third contender, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, scored 6 percent. The opinion polls seem to projects a two-horse race in next week’s elections, between Museveni and Dr. Besigye.
