Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rescues Dortmund in a charged match
There was major controversy in the German Bundesliga when the referee stopped the game midway through the second half and ordered the players off the pitch.
The drama started when two players collided and referee gave the free kick to Dortmund, which was quickly taken.
Wasting no time, Dortmund moved the ball swiftly and Erik Durm picked out the African player of the year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored his 21st Bundesliga goal of the season.
Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt protested at the decision, prompting the referee to send him to stands over his protest, but the manager refused to budge.
The referee stopped the match and ordered the players off the pitch, in an impasse that lasted nine minutes to the bemusement of the crowd.
The match eventually resumed with Aubameyang’s goal giving Dortmund the victory.
