Patients die as medical doctors continue with their strike

Read < 1 minute

Hundreds of patients in Kenya have been left to suffer after the government medical doctors downed their tools on Monday to demand for more pay. The start of the nationwide strike has resulted to thousands of patients being discharged prematurely as the hospital officials can no longer offer them any treatment services.

In the worst case scenarios of the strike, several patients have lost their lives in various parts of the country, with patients in the nation’s capital Nairobi, being the most affected.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call for negotiations however fell on deaf ears as the striking doctors sternly stated that representatives from the Council of Governors would set up a technical committee to settle the feud between the doctors and their employers.

Strikes by medical doctors have been a familiar scenario in Kenya in the recent years and have always had a negative impact on Kenyans, especially those who cannot afford to cater for their treatment in private hospitals.
